A 50mm 8-pointed Silver star medallion, presented in 1892 to Frank Jenkins, founder and first Captain of the Ottawa Hockey Club, in recognition of the team's Canada Championship victory. With blue enameled "OHC" monogram on 19mm silver desk at center, back engraved: "CHAMPIONS OF CANADA / PRESENTED / BY / J R Both Esq / TO / F M S Jenkins". with suspension bar above formed of two crossed early hockey sticks and a skate, small silver disc suspended below, engraved "1892". On faded blue ribbon that shows some notable mold spots that need to be neutralized. Offered together with a 63mm gold pin with small 12x11mm shield at top, set over two crossed sticks, engraved "Ottawa Hockey Club" around top, "1892" below. Lot also includes a faded 7x12.5 blue satin ribbon imprinted with gold lettering at center, "JOHN LESLIE / OTTAWA", which may or may not be related to the medal. The founding club that would become the Ottawa Senators, the Ottawa Hockey Club was one of the first organized clubs in the early days of the sport of ice hockey, co-founded by Jenkins in 1883. He was also captain of the Ottawa Bicycle Club on its founding in 1882. He also made notable contributions to the arts, founding Ottawa's first full-sized orchestra in 1894 (which he conducted until 1900).
