An interesting 70mm medal in white metal/pewter, issued to commemorate the 1984 Tall Ship gathering in Quebec City, as part of the 450th anniversary celebrations of Jacques Cartier's first landing. Formerly the property of a Canadian Naval Officer, who was assigned to sail from Portugal on the N.R.P. Sagres, as the naval liaison between the Portuguese naval cadet training tall ship and the governments of Canada and Quebec. The (retired) Lieutenant-Commander indicates that the white metal version was only issued to senior executive staff and officers of the visiting tall ships. Only the second example of this Lombardo-struck medal we have encountered, and quite possibly a scarcer issue as many (if not most) will have left Canada with their foreign naval recipients.
