An interesting pair of custom medals, both awarded to Professor John Till, as follows: (1) 49mm, 14.5 gram medal in Silver with tie-bar style clasp, Rev: jointed puppet figure engraved at center, arms and legs extended outwards, engraved lettering around side and upper rims: "LOUISVILLE EXPOSITION 1878"; Obv: fine engraved text: "PRESENTED / TO / PROF JOHN TILL / by / His Friends / LOUISVILLE KY. / Oct. 26 1878". (2) 42mm, 17.4 gram (total) medal in tested 14K Gold, set within exterior wreath of small silver leaves, with smaller 12x15mm gold anchor medalet above, "Hope" engraved at top in tiny letters, further 30x10mm suspension bar at top in gold and Silver, engraved "Mirabile Nisu(?)"; medal has traditional mine-cut diamond mounted at center, engraved: "Presented / TO / PROF / JOHN TILL / BY HIS FRIENDS / Park Garden / SEPT. 20 1879". A well-crafted pair of medals, seemingly presented to an academic of some esteem, and worthy of some research (estimated gold content: .14 oz). (Lot of 2 medals)
