A pair of Bausch & Lomb U.S. Army Signal Corps field glasses with leather strap, housed in original B&L leather case with Compass inset at top, and written/engraved on bottom of case: "MAJOR RALPH E. MACLEOD / I.G.D. / 1931". Also included is a copy of the original service record of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts for MacLeod's first 30 years(!). In 1907, at 18 years of age, he joined the Massachusetts Naval Brigade before moving on to an extensive military career that included the 86th Co. of the C.A.C., World War I service in France as a Captain with the 71st Artillery (the Second battalion of which was based at Pellouailes in the finals weeks of the War), and then as Lieutenant-Colonel of the I.G.D., where the report has him listed as "still in service" as of March, 1939. Remarkably, his service would continue, as a later family obituary confirms his retirement with the rank of General.
