A 38mm, 23.8 gram medal in Sterling Silver, issued by the British Ice Hockey Association to the Wembley Lions, champions of the 1936-37 season. Rev: plain fields, with engraving: "B.I.H.A. / NATIONAL ICE HOCKEY LEAGUE / CHAMPIONS - WEMBLEY LIONS / 1936-37", with London 1936 hallmark at bottom of S.J. Rose & Son. Obv: wreath around circumference, engraved text at center: "L. BATES / (CAPT - COACH)". A member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame, Lou Bates was an Ottawa native, and previously toured Britain twice with an all-star team from the city. Offered together with his number 36 Wills Tobacco card of 1937, which claims Bates to have been "the most travelled hockey player in the world", with 15 countries under his playing belt. Among the most notable pieces of hockey medalic memorabilia we've had the pleasure of offering. (Lot of 2 items)
