A Twenty-five Pound, One Hundred Dollar Debenture note of Brockville, Ontario, dated August 12, 1852, Serial #800, measuring 18x7.5cm. Uniface, pen-cancelled, with interest payments recorded on back. According to Charlton, "The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville issued £25 debentures in the early 1850's, which bore 6% annual interest paid twice yearly. Although these securities had the appearance and dimensions of bank notes, it is doubtful whether they circulated to any great extent because of their large denomination." Nice VF/EF for the type, with small patch of red seal(?) residue at lower-right corner on back.
