Lot of two 1953 Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Bronze Medals in original presentation packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint’s Children’s Party Event hosted in Ottawa in December of 1953. Both pieces are housed in original white cardboard holders, with the Master of the Royal Canadian Mint, W.C. Ronson’s card attached to each item, naming the children who were presented these medals (Giselle and Elizabeth Juneau) and the date of presentation. These unique items, minted at the Royal Canadian Mint, feature the widely distributed Canadian 1953 Bronze medals issued to schoolchildren to commemorate the Coronation of Canada’s new queen and the coronation festivities held across the country at the time. The medals’ obverse displays a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, in a high-collared ermine cloak and wearing the collar of the Garter and Badge of the Bath, facing right. The reverse of the medals displays the Royal Cypher EIIR, CANADA, and the Queen’s Crown at center, with the legend ‘ELIZABETH II REGINA CORONATA MCMLIII’ around the edge. Both bronze pieces display fresh, clean, original uncirculated details, with attractive, even bronze toning throughout the design and fields. On the reverse of the medal named to Elizabeth Juneau, a minor dark spot appears on the E in ‘ELIZABETH’ at the bottom of the medal, but it does not greatly distract from the overall appeal and originality of the piece. The white cardboard holders are very clean and fresh, and still display a nice white colour. Aside from some rust on the staples of the Mint Master’s card, there is no wear whatsoever on the card or holders, making these a perfect and original addition for any collector of RCM items, medals, and/or unique Canadian numismatic pieces.
