Obv: Crowned shield of Friesland: two lions passant, left, with seven billets or rectangles, on ornamental cross in inner circle: Lettering: NISI.DOMINVS.NOBILICVM. Rev: Half figure of Frisian farmer (perhaps William the Silent) with sword on shoulder between F - O (“Frisiae Ordines”) in inner circle, Lettering: MO. NOVA. ARG. ORDIN FRI. KM#41a (1620-1649). Copper 3g 24 mm.
2) Dutch Republic, Gelderland. 1768. One Duit. Crowned Arms, Two Lions Rampant. (“In Deo Est Spes Nostra”). Mint master Mark Tree = Mint master C.C.Novisadi, 1758-1776. Obv: Crowned City Arms of Gelderland: Two crowned Lions Rampant facing, divided by vertical sword. Lettering: IN DEO EST SPES NOSTRA. Rev: Inscription, date within baroque cartouche. Lettering: D GEL RIAE 1768 (Duchy of Gelderland). (One Duit = 1/8 Stuiver = 1/160 Gulden). Carel Christiaan Novisadi, Mint master of Gelderland, 1758-1776, and suspected of fraud in minting. KM# 93 (1758-1768). Copper 2.6g 21.5 mm.
3) Dutch Republic, Overyssel, 1769. One Duit. Crowned Arms. Eagle Mintmark, Mint master= N. Wonneman (1763- 1809). Obv: Crowned arms of Overyssel: Rampant
Dutch lion, right, with the river Ijssel in the background. Lettering: VIGILATE ET ORATE. Rev: Inscription, date. At top, Eagle Mintmark between two six-petalled rosettes. Lettering: OVER YSSEL 1769· Mintmark= Spread Eagle. Spread Eagle Mintmark= Utrecht Mint master Nicolaas Wonneman (1763-1809). KM#90 (1741-1769). Copper 3.8g 22 mm.
4) Dutch Republic, Hollandia, 1680ca. One Duit. Dutch Virgin, Fenced Garden. Obv: Dutch Virgin or Young Woman (not lion) seated within Fenced Dutch Garden, shield below. The virgin points at the sun, a symbol of faith in God. Lettering: LUCTOR ET EMERGO. Rev: Inscription in wreath. Lettering: HOL LAN DIA (date obscured – circa 1680). The County of Holland was from 1581 a sovereign state and the leading province of the larger Dutch Republic. KM# 55 (?) (1680-1689). Copper 2g 21 mm.
5) Dutch Republic, Hollandia, 1722. One Duit. Standing Lion, Fenced Garden. Obv: Standing lion (symbol of the Netherlands), left, holding spear (symbol of Defense against the Spanish) within a fenced Dutch “garden” (symbol of Dutch borders). Rev: Four-line Inscription above Date. Lettering: HOL LAN DIA 1722. The County of Holland was from 1581 a sovereign state and the leading province of the larger Dutch Republic. KM# 107 (1702-1780). 6) Dutch Republic, Utrecht, 1763. One Duit. Crowned Arms. Obv: Crowned City Arms of Utrecht: Diagonal line divides fields: lower shaded (red) and upper plain (white) (symbol of Saint Martin giving half his coat to the poor). Both sides, lion supporters. Below, beam and branches. Rev: Lettering: STAD UTRECHT 1763. KM #91 (1739-1793). Copper 2.84g 21.5mm.
7) Dutch Republic, Zeeland, 1767. One Duit. Crowned Arms, Half Lion, Waves (“Luctor et Emergo”). Tower Mintmark = Middelburg Mint. Obv: Crowned Arms of Zeeland: Half Lion and Waves. LUCTOR ET EMERGO. Official motto of the Dutch province of Zeeland, “I struggle and I emerge” celebrating the struggle of the Dutch against the Spanish king in 1585. Rev: Denticled Rim. Ornate Cartouche. Mintmark (Tower) between two six-pointed stars. Lettering: ZEE LAN DIA 1767. Mintmaster Martinus Holtzhey (the son), 1764- 1788. KM#101 (1766-1792). Copper 3.3g 21 mm.
