Lot of 12 Prussia Coins ca.1580-1860s and 1 Prussian Medal ca.1871:
1) German States, Prussia, 1540 ca. One Silver Groschen. (“Iustus”). (Albert of Brandenburg). Obv: Portrait of Albrecht of Brandenburg, right in a circle. IVSTVS EX FIDE VIVIT. Rev: Prussian eagle with crowned S at center. Lettering: ALBER D G MAR BRAN DVX PRVSS. Albert of Prussia (1490-1568) was the last Grand Master of the Order of Teutonic Knights 1510 to 1525. In 1521 Albert was defeated by Sigismund I of Poland. In 1525, Albert became a Lutheran, agreed to do public homage to Sigismund, and dissolved the order. The newly created Duchy of Prussia came under Polish suzerainty with Albert as its first Duke from 1525 to 1568. The black Prussian Teutonic eagle (The Order’s) on coin was augmented with a letter “S” for Sigismundus. The crown around the neck symbolizes Prussia’s submission to Poland; the outstretched sword arm secular law. MB# 3 (1530-1558). Silver 2g 23 mm. (Broken, date partial).
2) German States, Prussia, 1752. Three Pfennig. (Friedrich II, 1740-1786). Obv: Crowned ornate FR monogram, no legend. Lettering: FR (=Fredericus Rex, Koenig Friedrich). Rev: Five-line inscription with date, denomination and mintmark. Lettering: * 3 * PFEN: SCHEIDE MUNZ. 1752 A Frederick II (1712-1786) (der Große, “the Great”) was King of Prussia and Elector of Brandenburg from 1740 until 1786. Rev: Crowned eagle, flying left, looking right, ‘3/A’ divides date below, legend in arc above. Lettering: MONETA ARGENT. Frederick II (1712-1786) was King of Prussia from 1740 until 1786. Rev: Three-line inscription with date, mintmark in exergue. Lettering: SCHEIDE MÜNZE 4 PFENNINGE 1834. Gothic Lettering: DEM SIEGREICHEN HEERE. (“The victorious army”) GOTT WAR MIT UNS. IHM SEI DIE EHRE (“God was with us To Him be the honor”) Rev: Image of Iron Cross with Wreath. Inscribed Edge: Lettering: AUS EROBERTEM GESCHÜTZ (“Protection from the Conquered”). Struck in memory of the glorious German campaign against France 1870-71.
