Great Britain, 1924, Royal Air Force “HALTON” Relay Race, Silver Medal. Manufactured by Medalist F. Phillips of Aldershot, Hampshire, England, this medal shows strong original detail and honest toning throughout. The medals obverse depicts the Royal Air Force crest at the centre, with “ROYAL AIR FORCE” along the top rim, and “HALTON” along the bottom. The reverse has a beautifully designed scene of a runner on a path, with a cheering crowd in the background and a fence. The artists signature ‘PHILLIPS ALDERSHOT’ in finely engraved at the 5 o’clock rim area. The design is kissed with a soft touch of toning over the full design making it a nice original piece with very little wear. The obverse fields display even dark-grey toning across the surface with very slight contact wear in the jewels of the King’s crown, the eagles wings, and the eagle’s head. On the reverse, the only mild wear is on the high point of the runner, with a small nick on his face and light wear marks on the upper torso. The Edge of the medal is inscribed “RELAY RACE 1924”. Awarded by RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire, England, these awards for station athletics and apprentice competitions (such as relay races) were commonplace in the interwar period of the British Armed Forces. Medal shows nice About uncirculated details. It is housed in its original blue F. Phillips case, which shows signs of original, honest wear.
