Hamilton, Ontario - a 1974 Canadian Numismatic Association (C.N.A.) Annual Convention Silver Medal with Serial #000001. Obv: In the center, image of Sir Allen Napier MacNab, (prominent Canadian soldier, businessman, and political leader who served as the joint Premier of the Province of Canada from 1854 to 1856) with the dates 1798-1862. Around the top rim is the C.N.A. title, with ‘Annual Convention’ in two lines at the bottom below MacNab’s image. Rev: Image of Dundurn Castle (built by MacNab), with ‘Hamilton Coin Society’ around top of rim, with the date ‘1974’ at the bottom. Metal’s obverse displays nice bright and frosty proof finishes on the portrait, with the field displaying mirror finishes with dark toning around the rim especially around the areas where text is present. On the reverse, dark silver toning coats the whole surface, with some bright silver spots on the image and upper fields, but does not take away from the overall image. Overall a very nice C.N.A. Convention metal with a scarce lowest serial number which makes this piece a desirable numismatic item for those who collect both C.NA./ Canadian numismatic convention metals and those with an interest in collecting Hamilton linked numismatic products. Edge: Plain, with serial number 000001 at the 3 o’clock mark when looking at the reverse side. On the top of the edge is stamped ‘Made in Canada’. Silver, 38mm, 20.9g. NOTE: ex.Bruce Brace collection, who was awarded the piece for best of show (Bruce also designed the piece!)
