5) Hungary Token. Religious. Saint George. (“Equitum Patronus. In Tempestate Securitas”). Ca. 1900s. Obv: St. George slaying the dragon. Lettering: S.GEORGIVS·EQVITVM·PATRONVS. Rev: Christ and apostles in single-masted ship sailing in rough sea. Lettering: IN TEMPESTATE SECURITAS. These tokens were used especially by sailors as luck charms against sea accidents. The design copies medallions produced by Christian Hermann Roth at the Kremnitz Mint in Hungary in the 1600s, both as a “good luck talisman”; as well as a status symbol. (ca. 1900s) Brass 20 mm.
