A 68mm, 137.4 gram medal in gold-plated .950 Silver, struck at the Paris Mint for the Ivory Coast who celebrated their first anniversary of independence in 1961. Rev: Bust of Felix Houphouet-Boigny, right. Obv: Elephant over map of Ivory Coast, text above and below. The first President of the Republic of Ivory Coast, Houphouet-Boigny led the country from 1960 until his death in 1993. Edge-stamped with the Paris Mint logo and "1ARGENT", housed in original hinged case of issue. A very scarce African medal - other than a single example each in Bronze and Gold, we cannot find a single record of a silver issue being previously offered for sale.
