Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Salus seated left, feeding serpent arising from altar. RIC 14; gVF, somewhat worn reverse die (19mm, 2.7g).
Maximinus Thrax (i.e. the Thracian) was first person not of noble birth to become emperor, much to the distain of the Roman Senate. Maximinus never visited Rome as emperor as he was murdered by his own troops who had become disaffected during his war with the Senate.
