Shan States (Myanmar), large Silver "Flower Money" circular ingot, 33 grams, 58mm, likely early 19th century. A prouduct of the famous Bawdwin mine, these circulated as currency prior to the introduction of minted coins in the 1850's. It shows the typical crystallized surface pattern, which varied with the purity of the silver. Often suspended from the neck (usual small piercing). Ref: Mitchiner, Non-Islamic States (1979), no. 2810.
