Tristan Da Cunha, 2012, Antique Silver* finish, ‘The Diamond Jubilee Monarchs: Super Crown’ Coin:
Tristan Da Cunha, 2012, “The Diamond Jubilee Monarchs: Super Crown” coin in antique silver finish. To commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee as Queen in 2012, The Commonwealth Mint issued a limited edition ten crowns coin which featured the diamond jubilee portraits of the only two British monarchs ever to reach 60 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II and Her great- great grandmother Queen Victoria. Obv: Four squares separated by a sward horizontally and royal staff vertically in the middle. In the top left square is Queen Victoria’s “Young effigy” facing right designed by the renowned Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint, William Wyon. While on the opposite side on the top right displays British sculptor Mary Gillick’s young Queen Elizabeth’s effigy facing left when she became Queen in 1952. In the bottom left, you have Queen Victoria’s Jubilee “old head” portrait sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock in 1893 facing right. On the opposite side, is Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara and the robes of the Order of the Garter, facing left. Around the top rim, the lettered legend: “DIAMOND JUBILEE / TEN CROWNS” is displayed, with “60” in the middle of the four squared off sections. Rev: Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy in the middle with “HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II • TDC” around the top rim and “2012” in the bottom. With a limited mintage of only 999 coins and measuring 88mm, this large coin displays great details in both Queens effigies and overall detail. The coin is housed in the original mint packaging of a wood lacquered case and black cardboard box with mint paperwork included. Some light scratches on the plastic coin capsule on both the obverse and reverse sides, but does not detract from the coins appearance. Edge: Reeded. Base metal (coin is not silver*), 88mm.
