A unique, curated lot of late-19th and early-20th century Russian Empire, Early Soviet, Central-Asian, and Afghan paper currency. The collection includes approx. 256 notes, with a very diverse range of designs, conditions, and denominations throughout. Attached to this note lot comes a very intriguing story, the former owner having been a student living in Chicago in the 1970's. On hearing a disturbance in a neighboring apartment belonging to an academic at a local university, he discovered a team of FBI agents tossing the apartment, the resident having already been taken away. The student, being advised that the tenant would not be returning, was invited to "help himself" to anything remaining. This collection of notes, in the same folio in which it was found, was the product of that event. Some examples include the following: Afghanistan 1928 Rebellion era 10 Afghanis notes (P#12), with almost all in generally fresh and decent condition and nice bright colours, approx. 47 pieces. The second grouping consists of 1917 Russia 1000 Ruble Government Credit notes (P#37), all in very attractive, bright, and good condition, with some notes also in sequence, 66 pieces in total. The third accumulation includes Russian Empire 1910 Catherine II 100 Ruble State Credit Notes (P#13). These notes have fresh paper, bright colours, and limited circulation wear, though a few are more circulated. That said, this is still a wonderful collection of beautiful large-size notes, with many serial numbers in consecutive order. The remaining notes in the lot are a nice mixture of the following (Note: not all notes will be described in the description; please see attached lot photos): Four Russian Empire 10 Ruble 1909 notes (P#11). Russian Empire 1909 5 Ruble note (P#10). Russian Empire 1915 50 Kopeks Treasury Small Change Note (P#31). Small lot of two Russia 1917 20 Rubles (P#38) and four 40 Rubles 1917 (P#39) Treasury Notes. Early Soviet Union, 1919-1920, 250, 500, 1000, and 5000 Rubles Currency Notes (P#102-105). Mixed lot of 15 Soviet Union notes of various denominations and conditions, ca.1920s-1930s. Lot includes various other notes; please see attached photos. A most interesting lot, with some notable cumulative value.
