United Kingdom, Royal Mint 1984-1987 £1 Sterling Silver Proof coin set (four coins). Issued by the British Royal Mint in 1987, this set commemorates the Royal Proclamation of June 22nd 1983, in which Queen Elizabeth II authorized four new designs for the British circulation Pound coins from 1984-87, representing Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Limited to 50,000 sets worldwide, this set showcases the newly released coin designs but in a sterling silver proof finish. Reverse (Starting at the top left): Scottish Thistle, Northern Irish Flax Plant, Welsh leek, and English Oak Tree. Obverse: The Scottish coin features the old Arnold Machin Queen effigy, while the rest of the Queen’s effigies feature the new effigy designed by Raphael Maklouf. Specifications: Diameter: 22.5mm, Weight: 9.5 g, Composition: Silver (.925). The complete set includes the original red leather case of issue and the original Royal Mint information card.
