Vatican, 1987, Pope John Paul II Apolstolic Journey to Poland, guilt bronze metal. Commemorating the Pope’s third visit to his home country and 6-day pilgrimage which took place in June of 1987. This Papal visit helped to bolster and bring to light the actions of the banned ‘Solidarity’ trade union group which was instrumental in challenging the Polish communist regime. With his visit drawing millions of attendees across nine cities, the Pope’s historic tour laid crucial groundwork for the peaceful collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, especially in Poland.
