A contrasting pair of WWI medallions, as follows: (1) France 1916/17 Battle of Verdun Medal by S.E. Vernier, 37mm bronze, Obv: Bust of Marianne, the national emblem of the French Republic, facing right, wearing a helmet and holding a sword, text above: "ON NE PASSE PAS" ("they shall not pass"), Rev: Twin towered Porte Chausee in Verdun framed by laurel leaves; (2) "Nach Paris" - a 35mm, 16.6 gram British propaganda medal in Sterling Silver, Obv: Death on horseback, riding in front of Paris, "NACH PARIS" at left ("To Paris"), "1914" to right; Rev: text in an outer band around circumference: "GOETHE - THE PRUSSIAN IS CRUEL BY BIRTH CIVILIZATION WILL MAKE HIM FEROCIOUS", with list of German atrocities detailed at center, including Edith Cavell, the Lusitania, and the Zeppelin Victims.
