An Allied Victory Medal and 1914-1918 War Medal pair, impressed: "690269 A.L. CPL. W.J. CAREY. 21-CAN. INF.", together with a 1939-1945 Star - all three with original, lightly-worn ribbons. Residing in Hamilton, Ontario, William John Carey enlisted on February 21, 1916, at the age of 18, serving with the 173rd Battalion, Highlanders, C.E.F. He would later be ordered into active service with H.M.C.S. Star, on September 20th, 1943. Lot includes an original file containing documents such as his referenced WWII Report for Duty letter, an acknowledgement from the Naval Secretary of his post-war application for War Service Gratuity, as well as his Naval Pay and Identity Book (he appears to have served onboard multiple Canadian ships, from Newfoundland to Scotland, etc.) An interesting record of service for this veteran of both World Wars. (Lot of 3 medals plus assorted documents)
