A massive 113 mm, 457 gram bronze medal, issued in 1915 to commemorate the German Grand-Admiral Alfred Von Tirpitz. Obv: bust of Tirpitz, date of 1915 to left, text around circumference, [translation] "Every German ship is a deadly arrow in England's heart. Rev: a large steamer, torpedoed and sinking, with crew rescued in a lifeboat by submarine; on right edge, two rats swimming; text around upper rim, [translation] "Orders: Sink the ship, save the men". Cast by Paul Sturm, while Professor for sculpture at the Dresden State Academy.
